Cllr. Fran Oborski MBE Championing Offmore and Comberton

I first stood for election to Kidderminster Borough Council in 1972 and was successfully elected to Wyre Forest District Council in 1973 for what was then the St.George’s Ward (now Offmore Comberton), and served continuously ever since.

I served on the County Council from 2001 to 2020 when she narrowly lost her seat in a year when Conservatives gained all the County Council seats in Wyre Forest.

In December 2015, I was made MBE for “Public and Political Service” in Kidderminster and Wyre Forest which has to be the proudest moment of my life.I am particularly proud that the I was nominated for this Award by the Leaders of all Political Groups on Wyre Forest Council.

Probably my greatest achievement locally is that I Chaired the Planning and Highways Committee of Wyre Forest DC when it successfully introduced the pedestrianisation of Kidderminster Town Centre. I was also a leading member of the Campaign which successfully brought us the Kidderminster Town Council of which I am now a member.

As Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Wyre Forest Council, I led the campaign against the adoption of the deeply flawed Local Plan and was disgusted that, by having three of their members abstain from the vote, the Conservatives allowed the Local Plan to be adopted by just ONE vote!

In November 2022 I took the opportunity to discuss Wyre Forest issues with Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey.

I am a Governor of three local schools: Offmore and Comberton Primaries and King Charles 1 School. I am a Trustee of Kidderminster and District Youth Trust and Chair of Wyre Forest Youth Forum. And have had a proud record of dealing with casework on behalf of local residents  as well as dealing with housing issues.

Away from Politics, I am a cat lover, currently sharing my home with 4 feline friends! I enjoy foreign travel, visiting Poland by car every summer and having spent holidays in: the USA; Russia, Asia and Europe. I am currently sharing my home with a Ukrainian Refugee, and am working to fundraise to buy generators for Ukraine.
