Conservative Administrations Budget Fails to Maximise the Transfer of District Council Services and Assets to Town Councils!
On Wednesday Feb 26th Wyre Forest D.C. passed the Conservative Administrations Budget.
The Liberal Democrats were the only Political Group to vote against that budget and were supported in their opposition by a single member of the Independent Group. All other Independents and the Labour Group Abstained!
Speaking after the vote Cllr Fran Oborski, Leader of the Liberal Democrats said “This is the first time ever that the Conservatives have refused to take on board ANY part of any Opposition Group Budget proposals.
We know that the Labour Government is committed to getting rid of District Councils and introducing Unitary Authorities based on County Councils.
Our Budget Amendment was very simple: we wanted to increase staffing by 2 members of staff to be devoted to maximising the transfer of as many District Council services and facilities to our three Town Councils of Bewdley, Kidderminster and Stourport as they individually want BEFORE the Government stops such transfers in advance of expected merger of Wyre Forest D.C. into a larger Unitary Council in 2028!
I am saddened that except for one Individual Independent Cllr. who joined us in voting AGAINST the Budget, all the other Opposition Cllrs., Independent, Green and Labour ABSTAINED. Abstention, in my opinion, is a cowardly way of giving support to the Budget without having the courage to vote FOR it!”
